This heating process, called calcination, removes carbon dioxide (CO₂) from limestone, converting it into quicklime.

• Minor impurities: MgO, SiO₂, Fe₂O₃, Al₂O₃

• Highly reactive with water

• Generates strong heat when mixed with water (exothermic reaction)
